There are 3 types of sedation in dentistry, either on the basis of inhalation of a mild analgesic gas (known as “laughing gas”) or by intravenous injection of sedative substances: Inhalosedation It involves the inhalation of a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen - a mild analgesic gas. It is the most common dentistry sedation method, being safely and successfully administered through a special mask that attaches tightly to the nose. The patient does not sleep (as is mistakenly believed!), but feels very relaxed and can cooperate with the dentist.  It is used by many dentists like Clarkson Dental of Denver and other sedation dentistry offices. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes this technique as very safe and effective, being recommended for sedating children during dental treatments.
